First class facilities enable us to host residential and non-residential events, national and international championships, training camps, concerts, conferences, theatre productions and social evenings. Here is a sample of some recent events that have been held at Millfield. AcademicMillfield English Language Holiday Courses, 6th July - 17th August 2008 English language tuition, activities, excursions and full social programme for foreign students aged 7-16 years. Click here for more information Millfield Easter Revision Course, 25th - 29th March 2008 This 5 day course prepares students for examinations at GCSE, AS and A2 level. A broad range of subjects are offered to students and they are taught by high quality specialist tutors. Click here for more information BasketballMillfield International Basketball Camps 1993 – 2007 Millfield International Referees Camps 2007 BiathlonBritish Biathlon Championships, 17th July 2004 ChessMillfield International Chess Tournament, 18th - 19th October 2008 This two day tournament has been held at Millfield for a number of years. Children from around the world gather in order to participate for the chance to win the famous and coveted 'Black Horse Trophy'. Over 200 participants took part in the 2007 and 2008 tournaments which were hosted by the grand master Mathew Turner. National Chess Junior Squad Championships, 17th - 22nd July 2007 Up to 100 junior competitors from around the country, competing over five days. Conferences/CorporateSomerset 2012 Games Meeting, 4th April 2008 Delegates from tourism, education, sport and local authority sectors attended this high profile event. The aim was to prepare Somerset for the 2012 Olympic Games & Paralympics. National & regional preparation for the games was discussed and how the games would impact the area and help to develop local young talented sports people. Gurkha Welfare Trust Annual Meeting, 29th March 2008 This AGM was held in one of Millfield's conference facilities followed by a buffet lunch provided by Chartwells. Hospital Foundation Charity Conference, 19th October 2007 Clarks Team Building Evening, 21st August 2007 Team building events help with workforce productivity and improve communication between colleagues. Millfield Enterprises welcomes Clarks Corporation back for team bonding exercises year after year. The event involves colleagues participating in a variety of sporting activities and is followed by a BBQ with drinks; a perfect way to unwind after a busy and enjoyable evening. Institution of Occupational Safety & Health (IOSH), 18th April 2007 This conference was set to provide authorities advice and guidance on health & safety issues. Vernacular Architecture Group Conference, 18th - 22nd April 2006 This conference involved delegates visiting buildings of interest around Somerset and was followed by lectures in one of Millfield’s conference facilities on a variety of related subjects. Independent Schools PE Conference, 29th - 31st March 2005 This conference was aimed to develop new coaching skills and improve existing ones. Evening entertainment was provided consisting of wine tasting, champagne reception and a black tie dinner. Child Protection Conference 2005 This conference was a day of lectures and drama presentations on child protection subjects. CricketEngland U17 Cricket Training Camp, 14th - 16th July 2003 DanceGlastonbury School of Dance Performance, 25th - 27th May 2008 Circle Dance Camp 2006 EquestrianUS Riding Exchange, 2nd - 9th August 2008 This exchange programme has been running at Millfield for a number of years. The aim is to give both the Millfield and USA students a sample of each host nation’s culture and their riding experiences. 2008 saw the return of the exchange programme at Millfield after a successful exchange in America in 2007. Junior Para Dressage International, 3rd - 7th July 2008 Para riders from all over the world competed in this two day event. The event was aimed to provide the opportunity for young Para riders to gain valuable international experience and to help further their development. Pony Club UK, 31st March - 3rd April 2008 Pony Club UK attended Millfield for a four day Tetrathlon Training Camp. The camp enabled participants to show their skills in the three tetrathlon disciplines riding, running and shooting and hopefully qualify for a place in the national squad. FencingNorman Golding Fencing Academy, 10th - 15th August 2008 Many competitors from a variety of different countries attend this course to gain valuable fencing skills that can help to improve their overall performance. Cadet Winton Fencing Camp, 14th - 16th December 2007 FootballBristol City U18 Training Camp, 16th - 18th July 2008 This was a 3 day event held at Millfield's Kingweston site and the camps aim was to prepare the boys for their forthcoming season. The team trained intensively throughout the day and played fixtures with local football clubs. South West Regional Girls Centre of Excellence, 27th October 2007 Several girls' teams from around the South West come to participate in this one day football tournament and compete at our pristine Kingweston pitches. This competition continues to be successfully held at Millfield and the organisers return year after year. HockeyU15/U17 Girls Regional Hockey Tournament, 20th - 22nd October 2007 This event is an important step in the selection process for the England U16 & U18 squads. The regions from North – South, East – West take part in this 3 day tournament which is fully enjoyed by all participants and spectators that attend. European U16 Youth Hockey Championships 2004 U16 & U18 International Hockey Tournament 2001 KarateNational Karate Training Camp, 18th - 22nd July 2005 Modern PentathlonMPA Qualifier, World Cup & Youth International, 24th - 31st March 2008 The world's top junior & senior pentathaletes from 25 nations competed in this outstanding event. Participants from as far away as the USA, China, Ukraine and South Korea took part in all five disciplines. This big scale event has been returning for several years and shows that Millfield can successfully host such major events. MPA GB Youth Pentathlon Training Camp, 30th July - 2nd August 2007 This camp enables the participants to get expert coaching on an individual basis from the schools very own pentathlon specialist. National Youth Pentathlon Championships, 27th - 29th July 2007 This annual event sees 150 competitors return every year to participate in all five pentathlon events (Pistol Shooting, Fencing, Swimming, Horse Riding, Running) over a 2 day period. Musical EventsHarpist Group, 14th - 17th August 2008 Junior harpists from around the world took part in this short but intensive course. Some of the most promising harpists showed their talents to parents at the end of the course by a performance in the Preparatory School's concert hall. Somerset County Youth Orchestra, 3rd - 7th April 2008 IAPS Chamber Orchestra, 23rd - 30th March 2008 RAFA Charity Concert, 31st October 2007 This event was held to mark the 25th anniversary of the Falklands war. Money was raised in aid of the Royal Air Force Association and the Air Cadets. Festival of Voices, 2004 – 2006 National Youth Recorder Orchestra 2005 RugbyRugby Class Camp, 11th - 15th August 2008 Junior and senior rugby participants attend this intensive five day event in order to improve their technique and playing skills. International players are on hand each year and are the ideal candidates that children can learn from. Millfield International Rugby Festival, 31st March - 6th April 2008 Eight nations visit Millfield annually to take part in this festival to develop player's skills and showcase their talent. The nations that attended ranged from the USA, Portugal, Romania to those closer to home such as Wales, Scotland and England plus many more. The festival is a significant development step for international youth sides and each match that was played saw hundreds of spectators come to enjoy the game. Boys U16's RFU International – England v France 2003 Sporting EventsMillfield Holiday Sports Courses (during holiday periods) Click here for more information Cancer Research Race 4 Life, 20th July 2008 This charity race has been held at Millfield for the past 7 years and will be returning in 2009 to hold their 8th Somerset race. 2,000 women enter the grounds of Millfield to take part in this amazing charity race. South West British Colleges Sports Championships, 12th December 2007 Colleges from around the South West compete in order to progress to the British Colleges National Sport Championships at Loughborough University. In 2007 Millfield hosted both the Swimming and Hockey rounds of this competition. SASP Talent Camp & Coach Training Days, 22nd - 24th October 2007 SASP Special Schools Festival of Sport, 6th July 2007 Children from special schools across Somerset came together to try out new sports & activities. This event was enjoyed by all and continues to be held at Millfield annually. Lions International Youth Camp, 25th July - 5th August 2004 Youngsters from 26 countries took part in a variety of different activities and excursions over 10 days. SwimmingUK School Games, 29th - 30th August 2008 The UK's most talented young athletes competed in several different swimming events in our 50m Olympic-size swimming pool. The Event is designed to give athletes a real taste of what competition will be like at Senior International level. Total Immersion, 10th - 15th August 2008 This unique style of swimming teaching comes annually to Millfield and uses state of the art technology to analyse students swimming skills and techniques. National Water Polo Training Camp & Competition, 31st March - 6th April 2008 National Water Polo Academy 2002 – 2008 National Men's Water Polo League 2000 – 2008 South West Region Canoe Water Polo League 2004 – 2008 South West Regions Swim Meets 2000 – 2008 ASA Level 2 Swim Teacher Course, 17th - 27th August 2007 This nationally recognised qualification involved candidates attending an intensive 10 day course. Millfield invited many children from around the local area to come and have free tuition from the training coaches. The course benefits the local community as the successful candidates will hopefully go on to teach at local leisure facilities. SquashU17 & U13 British Squash Championships 2006 TennisTennis Tournament In Aid of Save the Children, 18th July 2006 Other EventsTesco Sports for Schools and Clubs Commercial, 12th - 13th July 2007 This commercial was filmed at Millfield to promote Tesco latest Sports for Schools campaign which was aired nationally during the summer of 2007. The stars of the commercial were Paula Radcliffe and Jason Robinson and they were filmed using a variety of facilities at Millfield.
